Dear Judy Jones,
My husband is a victim of
sexual abuse by former Deacon / teacher Ernie Formichelli. About
one month ago he learned that Dr. Terence Heltzel, my husband’s psychologist
of about twenty years, has recently surrendered his license to practice
psychology in lieu of further administrative action by the Ohio State Board of
Psychology which the board permanently revoked on July 1, 2013 for
an inappropriate relationship with one of his former clients. A
blatant violation of professional ethics. Heltzel further agreed not to
re-apply to practice in the State of Ohio.
Dr. Heltzel was my husband’s therapist to help him try to deal with
the trauma of being sexually abused. You can only imagine the hurt
and betrayal my husband felt once he learned this new information about Dr.
Heltzel and the fact that this same therapist also evaluated and approved men
in the Youngstown diocese to become deacons. It was another painful
betrayal for my husband. He now feels very disillusioned and betrayed
again. He has been so very depressed and now talks of not trusting any
therapist again. It was so hard for him to put trust in the diocese again...now
he feels so foolish to have done that.
I want to thank you for ALL
of the hard work you do for the victims of this horrific act. Most
suffer in silence...and when they do try to shed light they are victimized all
over again. My husband WAS A VICTIM
OF CHILD ABUSE....I see how it
tears him apart inside. Thank God for people like you who never stop pursuing
the truth and fight for the people who live with this everyday while their abusers are
still walking the streets. Keep up the amazing work you do and thank you from
the bottom of my heart.
Sincerely,
Sharon Arnal
